Impeachment Proceedings Against Trump on Monday – Dems act over Capitol Riot

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th amendment against Trump to remove the outgoing president from office; this move comes after Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol.

Huffpost quoted Pelosi as saying on Sunday, “In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both. As the days go by, the horror of the ongoing assault on our democracy perpetrated by this President is intensified, and so is the immediate need for action.”

House of Representatives Speaker has given the Vice President 24-hours to respond. If he does not agree to invoke the amendment – the democrats will process the impeachment legislation in the house.

Trump could have a historic second impeachment, and things are looking in favor of the sitting-president as the Republicans are speaking out against the President. Reuters reported Republic Sen. Pat Tommey, a backer of Trump until recently, has told NBC that Trump’s resignation “as soon as possible” would be best for the country.

Even after Donald Trump leaves office, the Democrats are keen to pursue a conviction to ensure that he is ineligible to run again for federal office.

The article of impeachment is set to charge Trump with inciting Capitol Hill violence, which resulted in the death of 5 people.
